Slurs

b. 10-12

composition: Op. 28 No. 22, Prelude in G minor

Slurs in A (→FC)

No slurs in FE (→EE1)

Slurs in GE

Slurs in EE2

..

The missing slur in b. 10-11 and the slur in b. 12 in FE (→EE1) must be oversights of the engraver. The earlier starting point of the slur in b. 10 in GE is probably a result of the notation of FC, in which the beginning of that slur may suggest such an interpretation (Fontana probably took the bottom arm of the accent/diminuendo in A for the beginning of the slur). In EE2 the slurs were added probably after GE (in b. 10 inaccurately).

b. 11-12

composition: Op. 28 No. 22, Prelude in G minor

Slur in A (→FC,FE)

Slur in GE

No slur in EE1

Slur in EE2

..

In the main text we give the slur of A (→FC,FE). The earlier starting point of the slur in GE is an inaccuracy of the engraver, similar to the one in the previous bar. EE1 overlooked the slur (like the two adjacent ones), which was arbitrarily completed in EE2.

b. 15

composition: Op. 28 No. 22, Prelude in G minor

Slur to 4th quaver in A

Whole-bar slur in FC (→GE) & FE (→EE)

..

The slur in A, which initially reached the 5th quaver in the bar, was shortened by Chopin by one quaver. That correction was not taken into account both by Fontana and the engraver of FE – in FC and FE the slur encompasses the entire bar.

b. 34

composition: Op. 28 No. 22, Prelude in G minor

Slur in A (→FE) & EE2

No slur in FC (→GE) & EE1

..

The missing slur resulted from the oversights of Fontana and of the engraver of EE1. The slur was added in EE2; most probably after FE.

b. 35-37

composition: Op. 28 No. 22, Prelude in G minor

Nonuniform slurring in A (→FC)

No slurs in FE (→EE)

Uniform slurring in GE

..

The omission of three slurs in these bars is most probably a mistake of FE, while the change of the range of the slurs in b. 36-37 is probably a revision unifying them with the authentic slur in b. 35-36. However, it does not result from the notation of the manuscripts, in spite of their minor inaccuracies.
