b. 10

composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor

..

In A one can see corrections on the 2nd beat of the bar – the R.H. figure was crossed out and rewritten on the stave above. Chopin wanted to change the enharmonic notation of the 5th and 6th demisemiquavers from f2-d2 to e2-c2; eventually, however, when writing the 6th demisemiquaver as c2, he again changed his mind and returned to d2 (he introduced the change of f1 to e1 also in the L.H.).

b. 10

composition: Op. 28 No. 8, Prelude in F♯ minor

..

In the 1st group of demisemiquavers in this bar, one can see in A a crossed-out accidental – most probably a  – before the 3rd demisemiquaver. Formally, the accidental is not necessary here; it is absent both in FC and FE (→EE1). However, the presence of the f pedal note as well as f2 at the end of the previous bar justify its addition in the form of a cautionary accidental, which was performed in GE and EE2.

In the main text we add a reminder  before g2 at the end of the bar. The accidental was already added in GE and EE

In A (→FC,FE) there is no  lowering e to e in the last L.H. figure. The patent inaccuracy was corrected in GE and EE.

Nothing indicates the authenticity of the EE version – it is arguably the engraver's mistake.
