Issues : Inaccurate slurs in A
b. 1-12
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major
..
The first slur of the Mazurka begins on a bar-line in A, which allows a twofold interpretation. The slur at the end of bar 12 (1a volta) also may be read as encompassing only two quavers or longer. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |

b. 4-5

composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major
..
The slur in A (→GE→FE→EE) ends above the quaver g1 in bar 4. The corresponding sign in AI is ambiguous; the slur end does not cross the bar line, yet the shape of the final (added) section points to f1 in bar 5 as the target note. In the further part of the Mazurka slurs in analogous places are visibly longer: although in bars 8-9 the slur of A is unclear, both AI in that place and A in bars 28-29 and 32-33 have slurs reaching f1. In this situation we consider the notation of bars 4-5 to be inaccurate; this decision finds confirmation in the correction visible in A, consisting in lengthening the slur at the transition between bars 28-29. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |

In A (→GE→FE→EE) the slurs begins from a flat1 in bar 6 and we rely on that logical notation in our main text. In AI the beginning of that slur is unclear - the beginning is bar 6 is missing. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |

b. 8-9

composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major
..
In A it is not quite clear where this slur ends, but in AI it definitely reaches f1 in bar 9, just like in A in analogous bars 28-29. Therefore in our main text we extend the slur to f1. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |

b. 9-10
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 3, Mazurka in A♭ major
..
The first slur, encompassing the triplet, is written inaccurately in A, patently shifted to the left. This resulted in its earlier beginnig in GE1 (→FE→EE). The correct interpretation of the sign, in keeping with the analogous bars 5-6 as well as 29-30 and 33-34, was introduced in GE2. AI has different slurs here, as in bars 5-6. We propose the longer one as an alternative to the slurring in A. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A |
