The sign differences between AI and A may be regarded another argument for determining the chronology of both autographs. As compared with consistent markings of A, both the accent differentiation in bars 3 and 7 and the lack of signs in bars 4 and 8 of AI suggest that the idea for the dynamic shaping of that phrase was not yet fully developed. Moreover, assuming that AI was written earlier, the signs in bars 3 and 7 form a logical sequence:
- a short accent above the note d flat2 in AI in bar 3;
- a long accent under that note in AI in bar 7;
-
still longer signs
written four times into A (bars 3 & 7 and 27 & 31).
The signs of A were repeated, with minor inaccuracies, In GE (→FE→EE).
