It is problematic to assess the range of the hairpin entered into FES most probably by Chopin – the arms of the mark are clearly of a different length, which happened often to Chopin. According to us, it is the top arm that is reliable, probably written first, from right to left. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , Scope of dynamic hairpins , Annotations in FES |

b. 58-59

composition: Op. 28 No. 15, Prelude in D♭ major

The abridged notation of repeated quavers as minims provided with quaver tremolos (appearing for the first time in these bars in FE) misled the engraver of EE; he wrote out the abbreviations in full but kept the dots being part of the abridged notation. Consequently, these bars contain erroneous staccato dots in EE. In b. 59, an arbitrary slur was also added to the dots. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in EE |

b. 65-66

composition: Op. 28 No. 15, Prelude in D♭ major

The two long accents we give in the main text come from A. The copyist overlooked the second one in FC (→GE), and short accents in FE result from inaccurate recreation of A. The vertical accents in EE are an arbitrary revision characteristic of this edition. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Inaccuracies in FE , Errors of FC |

The missing hairpin in FC (→GE1) must be a mistake of Fontana, who overlooked a few dynamic markings further on – in b. 84, the hairpin in b. 85 and the accents in b. 86 and 87. The addition of that mark in GE2 indicates that the text of FE was used at random at the time of revision. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , Errors of FC |

In the main text we reproduce the hairpin after A, in which the mark most probably emphasizes the ascending secundal d1-e1 step. In FC (→GE) the hairpin was overlooked, whereas in FE extended (it occupies a half of the bar). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , Errors of FC |
