CJ - Jędrzejewicz Copy
Date: | X 1836 |
Title: | Lento con gran espressione |
Dedication: | [My Sister Ludwika] |
CJ was written by Ludwika Jędrzejewicz from [A2] into an album* sub-sequently sent to Maria Wodzińska. The original is lost, but a photocopy was reproduced in a book by Leopold Binental, Chopin, Dokumenty i pamiątki [Chopin. Documents and Souvenirs], Warsaw 1930, where the photographs displayed in mUltimate Chopin are taken from. Some of the corrections visible in CJ could have been made by Chopin.
CJ was written by a fairly unskilled hand; it contains a significant number of inaccuracies and even mistakes (e.g. rhythmic mistakes in b. 32). In spite of that, we consider it the principal source for the reconstruction of [A2], since Ludwika could not have introduced her own additions or changes, which was almost certainly the case in CK.
* The complete album, titled ‘Maria’, was published in facsimile form by Kornelia Parnasowa, Breitkopf & Härtel, Leipzig 1900, and is available online on Polona.pl.
