b. 62-63

composition: Op. 50 No. 2, Mazurka in A♭ major

A repeated in A1 & GE

A  tied in FE (→EE)

Our variant suggestion

..

The tie of A was added by Chopin in the last stage of proofreading of FE. In the main text we include it in a variant form, since the same place was completed differently in the proofreading of GE (or in [A2]), i.e. Chopin added there arpeggios at the beginning of b. 63. Therefore, it is likely that holding A (and pedal, see the note in b. 63) is one way to perform this fragment, while arpeggios – another one. The same applies to b. 78-79.

b. 63

composition: Op. 50 No. 2, Mazurka in A♭ major

Accent in A1 (→FEEE)

No mark in GE

Our variant suggestion

..

In the main text we include the accent of A1 (→FEEE) (in a variant form), since in this case Chopin's intentional omission of a mark seems to be less likely. GE feature an accent in analogous b. 79, which means that it was most probably present in [A2] in the discussed bar.

No markings in A1, EE & GE

Pedalling in FE

Our alternative suggestion

..

In the main text we include the pedalling (in a variant form) added by Chopin in the last stage of proofreading of FE. The same applies to b. 79.

No arpeggio signs in A1 (→FEEE)

Arpeggio signs in GE

..

Chopin added the arpeggios in the proofreading of GE1 (→GE2) or wrote them still in [A2]. The same applies to b. 79.

A1 (→FEEE) includes a cautionary  before the d semiquaver. According to us, in spite of the fact that the d note in the previous bar appears at the same pitch, using a cautionary sign is more justified already at the beginning of this bar, hence in the main text we move the  in front of D. GE do not contain any cautionary sign in this bar. The same applies to b. 79.
