In the entire middle section of the Mazurka (b. 60-83), the slurs of A1 and GE are placed over the stave. Such a slurring, consistent and unequivocal – the slurs (and dots) refer to whole chords – was significantly distorted in FE (→EE) due to oversights (b. 71-72 and 76-77) and the manner of placing slurs next to noteheads. As a result, in a few places slurs seem to look like ties: c1 in b. 65-66 and 77-78, d
2 in b. 67-68, b in b. 78-79. In mUltimate Chopin we consider those changes to be relevant only in the situations mentioned above and wherever additional slurs appear, like in the discussed place. Presumably, double slurs are a result of Chopin's intervention: having noticed a reversed slur, he added the right one without having removed the previous one (leaving an inaccurate or erroneous slur could have also been a result of the engraver's haste). The fact that it was also other bars forming part of the first eight-bar section of the middle section of the Mazurka that were proofread in FE is supported by a significantly bigger number of mistakes and inaccuracies in the repetition of that section: cf. b. 76-83.
