Both fingerings appearing in the sources are compliant in terms of the 5-4-5 succession of fingers at the top of the passage, typical of Chopin. In the descending part of the passage, FEH gives a crossing-over of the 5th finger, which also belongs to the range of Chopinesque fingering options – cf. the Impromptu in A category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Differences in fingering , Annotations in FEH |

The fingering of FEH determines one of possible continuations of the Chopinesque entry in FED, whereas Fontana's fingering in FE – a different one. In the main text, we take into consideration the entry of FED only, defining the most important element of the passage's fingering – the thumb under. As an alternative solution, we suggest a combination of the fingering of FED with three digits of FEH, which could have been entered by Chopin. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Annotations in FED , Differences in fingering , Annotations in FEH |

Both fingerings could be coming from Chopin, yet their possible authenticity is unconfirmed. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Differences in fingering , Annotations in FEH |

In the main text, we give the fingering of FED, written probably by Chopin. A different fingering, written twice in FEH (here and in bars 502-503), may also come from lessons with Chopin. In EE, Fontana gives still another fingering, whose authenticity seems to be questionable, since the key place (e category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Annotations in FED , Differences in fingering , Annotations in FEH |

FEH exactly repeats the fingering written in bars 498-499. According to us, it is likely that the entries were performed in the reverse order – Chopin marked the fingering for the second time, which is frequent in his pupils' copies, while the pupil copied it in the first appearance of this figure an octave lower. A fragment of the fingering given in bar 498 was repeated here also in EE. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Differences in fingering , Annotations in FEH |
