Articulation, Accents, Hairpins
b. 230

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III
..
In the main text, we add wedges to the quavers at the beginning of the bar, since their absence in FE (→GE) can be easily explained by an oversight related to the transition into a new line of text. The virtuoso character of the figuration and a clear analogy between the progression's segments in bars 228-230 make the articulation of those quavers clear. The mark in the R.H. was added in EE. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions |

We consider the additional crotchet stem next to B to be a mistake – apart from this place, in the entire eight-bar section (bars 232-239), it is only the accented, topmost notes of the bass voice that are prolonged. That voice creates a lively, dance phrase, marked with the indication ben marcato and separated with staccato dots or accents – the discussed crotchet would have blurred this clear image. composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt III

The missing differentiation of this bass note (with a staccato dot) is most probably an oversight – cf. all remaining bass notes in this section. Two bars earlier, a respective note is actually provided with a crotchet stem, yet we consider it to be a mistake. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: GE revisions |

The missing wedge in the majority of the sources may be a consequence of the mistake of the engraver of FE who placed the mark provided for this bar probably 2 bars later, in bar 240. A wedge was added in GE3, perhaps following the mark in bar 240. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: GE revisions |

We consider the wedge to be a mistake – it seems that it should have been placed two bars earlier. category imprint: Editorial revisions |
