Pedalling

b. 113

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt II

under 6th triplet in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

 under 5th triplet in GE3

..

In the majority of the sources, the pedalling markings are most probably inaccurate – there is no reason for the most bottom elements of the chord not to be held with pedal. Therefore, in the main text we give a pedalling modelled after an analogous figure in bar 111. Such a change was introduced in GE3.

The missing  mark in bar 114 may be a mistake, since it is the last bar on a page in FE, which favours such inaccuracies. On the other hand, from the harmonic point of view, change of pedal is superfluous in this place, hence it cannot be excluded that it is the  mark at the beginning of bar 115 that was unnecessarily added. In the main text, we leave this issue to the performer's discretion.

Our suggestion

..

In this bar, the pedalling in the sources is most probably incomplete and inaccurate – cf. analogous bar 120. Due to this reason, in the main text we suggest a solution modelled after the unequivocal pedalling in the aforementioned bar.
