Issues : Inaccurate slurs in A
b. 7-8
|
composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I
..
In Atut, it is unclear from which note the slur begins. When interpreted literally, it seems to be encompassing three notes, from the e1 semiquaver. However, according to us, the shape of the line suggests that Chopin started writing it earlier, yet the ink did not flow out immediately. From the musical point of view, it would be a slur beginning already from the c2 quaver that would be most natural; however, reluctant to excessively intervene in the graphic image of music, in the main text we suggest a slur from the note that directly precedes its visible ending. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Inaccurate slurs in A , GE revisions |

Both endings of the carelessly written slur in Atut fall between notes – we interpret them as "embracing," hence concerning only these notes that are actually under the slur. In the main text, however, we adopt the version of FE (→GE,EE), which is uncontroversial, as far as the musical and graphic issues are concerned, and which can also be considered an interpretation of the slur of Atut. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , FE revisions |

b. 13-14

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

The slur in bar 13, which ends the line of the text in Atut, is written indistinctly – one can see only its beginning. Consequently, the mark was omitted in FE (→EE,GE1→GE2), whereas the slur begins only just from bar 14. The revision introduced in GE3, a slur encompassing the entire first motif, like all subsequent ones, certainly corresponds to Chopin's intention, hence we include it in the main text (cf. prolonging the slurs in Atut in bars 14-15 and 17-18). category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions , Errors in FE , Inaccurate slurs in A , GE revisions |

b. 25-28
|
composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

The range of the slur of Atut is unquestionable, although it reaches neither the first nor the last note of the phrase. However, in FE, the ending of the slur was reproduced incorrectly; in GE, attempts were taken to correct it. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , Inaccurate slurs in A , GE revisions |

b. 28-29

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Bar 28 ends a page in Atut, which contributed to ambiguities in the slurring in the L.H. – the slur at the end of bar 28 clearly suggests continuation; however, it was not concluded in bar 29. Taking into account the fact that the 1st note in bar 29 is provided with a staccato mark, in the main text we draw the slur to that note. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources |
