The missing ​​​​​​​ mark was probably unintended by Chopin. The addition we suggest is justified by the authentic pedalling of other fragments of a similar texture, e.g. bars 155-161. An identical addition was introduced in EE and GE3.

The missing ​​​​​​​ mark may have resulted from Chopin's inadvertence; however, it is also possible that the composer left the task of finding the right moment to release pedal to the discretion of the performer. According to us, pedal is to be held at least until the beginning of bar 479 and rather not longer than until the beginning of bar 480, which is suggested by two marks [], proposed in the main text.

In FE, the absence of a ​​​​​​​ mark, ending the pedal depressed at the beginning of bar 514, must be considered an inaccuracy in this context. The mark was added in GE and EE.

The  mark, overlooked in FE, was added in the remaining editions, although its absence does not have to be considered a mistake – cf. e.g. the Waltz in C​​​​​​​ Minor, Op. 64 No. 2, bar 15. In the main text, we suggest adding the mark in accordance with the possible phrasing, hence before the last quaver, which already begins the next musical thought.
