Slurs

b. 430-431

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

2 slurs in sources

Slur suggested by the editors

..

As in the case of bars 426-427, we consider the gap in the slur to be a possible inaccuracy of notation.

b. 430-431

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

Slur in bar 430 in FE (→EE) & GE3

No slur in GE1 (→GE2)

Slur to bar 431 suggested by the editors

..

In the main text, we extend the slur until the last note of the passage by analogy with bars 426-427. The absence of the slur in GE1 (→GE2) must be a mistake of the engraver; it was added in GE3

Slurs from 3rd semiquaver in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

Dots & slurs in GE3

Slurs from 1st semiquaver suggested by the editors

..

In the main text, we suggest starting the slurs in both hands from the 1st semiquaver, since in similar places slurs starting from the beginning of semiquaver sequences are more frequent (e.g. in the next bar or in bars 412-413). In GE3, shorter slurs were kept, whereas the first two semiquavers were arbitrarily provided with staccato dots.

L.H. slur in FE (→GE1GE2)

2 slurs in EE

Dots & slurs in GE3

2 slurs suggested by the editors

..

The slur over the semiquaver sequence is present in FE (→GE1GE2) only in the L.H. In EE, an analogous slur was added for the R.H., which we consider a right revision. The change of markings in GE3 is arbitrary.

b. 434-435

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slur in FE (→EE1)

Slur in GE & EE2 (→EE3)

Slur suggested by the editors

..

The absence of the slur is rather to be considered an inaccuracy – cf. analogous bars 410-411 and 438-439 (a slur, although inaccurate, is present also in bars 414-415). However, one has to point out that in the discussed place the span of the position encompassed with the slur would be the greatest. A comparison with analogous bars most probably also served as the basis for revision in GE and EE2 (→EE3).
