b. 287

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

No slur in FE (→GE,EE)

Slur suggested by the editors

..

According to us, the slurring of the sources, in which the legato articulation is marked in this and the next bar either explicitly, with a slur, or implicitly, with an additional quaver beam, does not have to be considered to be erroneous. However, it can be likely that the longer and complete slurs of analogous bars 303-304 express not a different but a later concept of Chopin. Due to this reason, in the discussed bar, we suggest an addition, whereas in bar 288, a modification of the slur, including this probably later slurring.

Fingering written into FEH

No fingering in FE (→GE)

Fontana's fingering in EE

..

The only digit written in FEH was given also by Fontana. Moreover, it is most probably a fingering envisaged by Chopin, since it is difficult to imagine another one here. However, it is not so obvious in the case of Fontana's indications at the beginning of bar t. 288 – gmay be as well performed with the 4th finger.

b3 in FE (→EE,GE1GE2)

..

Bars 288 and 304 are a repetition, modified accordingly, of bars 287 and 303 that precede them. Out of these 4 bars, it is only bar 288 that features the bnote as the topmost one, which implies a possibility of a mistake. Due to this reason, in the main text we suggest an a3, like in the remaining bars. Such a correction was introduced already in GE3.

b. 288

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

The middle part of the bar, from the 3rd to the 8th note, is written in FE (→EE) with the use of an octave sign. In GE1 (→GE2), the mark was overlooked, as a result of which a corresponding fragment seems to be written an octave lower. The mistake was rectified in GE3 by moving the notes to the right pitch, like it was written in all editions in analogous bar 304.

b. 288

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In GE1 (→GE2), the 8th semiquaver is a d2. It is a result of two overlapped mistakes – the missing octave sign (see the previous note) and the Terzverschreibung error, which is confirmed by the comparison with analogous bars 287 and 303-304. The mistakes were corrected in GE3.
