In FE (→EE) the dashes defining the extent of the diminuendo were omitted. This is the inaccuracy very often found in Chopin editions of M. Schlesinger. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE |

A horizontal line that can be seen in A after the indication dim. is certainly meant to suggest the extent of that dynamic marking; we give dashes that are usually used for the purpose. In GE (→FE→EE) that marking was omitted. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE |

The indication smorzando is written in A over the entire bar, as Chopin visibly tried to stretch the word as much as he could. We reproduce that nuance of notation in a conventional manner, breaking the word into syllables. In GE (→FE→EE) it was written as one word at the beginning of the bar. category imprint: Differences between sources |

This dynamic indication was written in A as dimin and completed with a line that delimited the extent of its application. In GE (→FE→EE) that line was simply treated as an abbreviated word ending. Our proposal combines all the visually important aspects of notation found in the sources. In EE both indications in this bar were given as abbreviations. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE |
