The absence of the first slur is most probably Chopin's oversight. The slur added in GE1 (→FE) probably comes from Chopin; however, it could have been inaccurately reproduced, and it is the slur of GE2 that is compliant with the composer's intention. The slur of EE is a result of a unifying revision of the slurs on the basis of the part of the R.H. In the main text we give two slurs modelled after the slurs in the R.H. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of GE |

The absence of the slur in bar 173 in GE1 (→FE) is certainly a mistake. However, it is probably not an oversight, but a "mirror" mistake (reverse sign): instead of placing the slur to the right of the bar line, the engraver printed it on the left-hand side, where it makes no sense in this context (cf. Waltz in C minor Op. 64 no. 2, bars 76-77). In EE the slur was added in the right place, but the one in bar 172 was also preserved. GE2 has a version compliant with A. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in GE , GE revisions , Sign reversal |

b. 173-174

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

We interpret the slur of A, started at the end of a page in bar 173 and unfinished on the next page, in accordance with the notation of bars 169-179 and the slurs in the R.H. in bars 169-170 and 171-172. The absence of the slur over (under) the triplet in bar 174 must be Chopin's oversight. The slur of GE (→FE) is probably a result of a Chopin proofreading of GE1, whereas the slur of EE – of a revision. In the main text we give two slurs modelled after the slurs in the R.H. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Inaccurate slurs in A , Authentic corrections of GE |

b. 182-183
|
composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III
..
The slur of GE1 (→FE) – the same in both bars – is probably an attempt to interpret the short, bottom slur in bar 182 (cf. bars 178-180), applied generally to both bars. In turn, the version of EE is an interpretation of these slurs – certainly arbitrary – in which, on the one hand, one wanted to preserve a close similarity to the version of the base text (FE), and, on the other hand, to relate it to a possibly natural performance. GE2 reproduced the whole-bar slurs of A, without the bottom slur in bar 182. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in GE , GE revisions |

In A (→GE1→FE) there are no accidentals before the last two quavers. This patent inaccuracy was corrected in EE and GE2. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Omission of current key accidentals , Inaccuracies in A |
