Issues : Errors of A

b. 64-65

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

..

In A, there is no change of clef to treble in the part of the L.H. before the entrance of the solo piano in bar 65. This patent mistake was rectified in GE, yet the erroneous notation of A is to be found in FE, which suggests that the correction of GE1 was introduced in the last phase of proofreading. EE includes the correct text; the correct clef is written also in FEJ (the carelessly written sign does not allow to identify the person who wrote it; it was probably the owner of the copy, Ludwika Jędrzejewicz).

A does not have an octave sign, which is a patent mistake, probably caused by distraction following from the transition into a new page (the bar is the last on the page). The mistake was rectified – perhaps at Chopin's request – already in GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2).

b. 113-115

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

In bars 113 and 115 Chopin overlooked naturals raising d3 to d3. This patent mistake was not rectified in any of the editions.

It is difficult to say what the ccrotchet (grace note?), written in A over the d1-esecond at the beginning of the bar, means. It is not corresponded by any note in Morch, it was not included in the editions either. In this situation, we regard this inexplicable, from the point of view of melody and harmony, note as a mistake.
Perhaps it was to be an e3, sustained from the previous bar, in which the e3 minim is provided with an additional curved line. However, the curved line is not combined with the discussed note, hence we do not include this possibility, doubly hypothetical, in our system.

b. 157-158

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

a1 repeated in A (→GE1FE)

a1 tied in EE & GE2

..

The missing tie of ais almost certainly a mistake of Chopin, who did not introduce the changes performed in the R.H. to the L.H. It seems that a1(2) at the beginning of bar 158 was to be originally repeated – the crotchet in the part of the R.H. was even provided with a staccato dot, deleted then probably when a tie was added. This scenario is confirmed also by the dots over the crotchets at the end of bar 157 – see the note dedicated to them. A tie was added in EE and GE2.
