The absence of the accents in bars 297 and 299 in GE1 (→FE) may be considered to be a result of the inaccuracy of the engraver or of Chopin's proofreading – see bars 293-295. The accent of EE in bar 297 is a revision performed after analogous bars 293 and 295 or a mistake. The signs in GE2 were added on the basis of A. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of GE |

The absence of the hairpin in GE1 (→FE) may be an oversight of the engraver or Chopin's proofreading – see bars 293-295. The sign in EE may be a part of a revision unifying the markings after analogous bars 293 and 295. The sign in GE2 was added taking into consideration A, yet the range of the was repeated after GE1 in bar 293. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Scope of dynamic hairpins , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of GE |

Reproducing the wedge over d1 as a dot must be an inaccuracy of GE (→FE→EE). In turn, the dot for the L.H., added in EE and GE2, is a revision of the editors. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions |

We give the version of A (→GE→FE) in the main text, since the absence of may be considered a subtle indication that it is already bars 299-300 that are to be performed slightly milder. However, allowing the possibility that Chopin committed a mistake, we suggest an alternative proposal, i.e. adding a hairpin by analogy to bars 293, 295 and 297. The accent over c1, written in this bar in A, suggests that Chopin envisaged a gradual attenuation of the expression of this motif only from bar 301, together with rallentando. Cf. bars 293-295. The sign in EE is most probably a part of a revision unifying the markings after analogous bars 293 and 295. category imprint: Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: EE revisions |
