Issues : Omissions to cancel alteration

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

In the sources the returning d2 is missing both before the last demisemiquaver and the next two notes at that pitch. Chopin's oversight is undeniable, yet if we were to evaluate the sound only, one can ponder whether the was supposed to be already before the last demisemiquaver or only before the dotted quaver in the middle of the bar. From the psychological point of view, the second possibility is much more likely: it is hard to assume that Chopin would have forgotten an accidental differentiating two adjacent notes in a chromatic passage. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Editorial revisions issues: Errors in FE , Errors in EE , Omissions to cancel alteration , Errors in GE , Errors of A |

None of the sources, including a b1 on the 1st beat of the bar, has a returning b1 on the penultimate note, which is a patent inadvertence. category imprint: Editorial revisions issues: Omissions to cancel alteration |

In A there are no accidentals before the 11th semiquaver (in both hands), as a result of which both here and two notes later one should read an a(1). Chopin's patent oversight was corrected in all editions. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Omissions to cancel alteration , GE revisions , Cautionary accidentals , Last key signature sign |

It is undoubtedly an oversight, corrected already in GE (→FE→EE). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Omissions to cancel alteration , Errors of A , Authentic corrections of GE , Last key signature sign |

The missing flats returning d(1) on the 6th semiquaver of the 2nd half of the bar in A (→GE1) is most probably Chopin's mistake. In any case, flats added in the proofreading of FE (→EE) dissipate any doubts about his final intention. Cf. bar 69. If in bar 64 the version with harmonic accompaniment was chosen, the first or third version is to be selected here. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Omissions to cancel alteration , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |
