The missing  in A is most probably Chopin's neglect. However, it is not entirely certain whether it was he that added the sign in the proofreading of GE (→FE→EE).

In both bars, we place the final  asterisks in accordance with A, in which they seem to be placed in a well-considered manner. Moving them to the end of the bar in the editions is most probably a result of inaccuracy of the engraver of GE1.

According to us, all versions of the editions are a result of consecutively overlapping inaccuracies and misunderstandings. In GE the signs were related only to the notes on the bottom stave, which was then inaccurately reproduced in FE and EE.

In A there is no  asterisk after the  sign in the middle of the bar. This oversight, frequent in Chopin's works, unnoticed perhaps due to the end of the page in A, could have also contributed to the erroneous interpretation of the  sign as  in GE (→FE→EE). In EE   were added, most probably on the basis of the authentic pedalling in analogous bar 135. The pedalling was added also in GE2, although only in the incomplete version of A; the  sign was also preserved, in spite of the fact that it is not included in A.
