Issues : Corrections in A

b. 88-89

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

..

The first slur in the R.H. would reach in this bar to the very beginning of the next one, which was clearly crossed out by Chopin in A. The slurs of GE (→FEEE), eventually compliant with the corrected slurs of A, were initially different – there was no division of the slur in bar 88 – which is indicated by visible traces of corrections.

b. 93

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

1 slur in A

2 slurs in GE (→FE)

2 slurs in EE

..

In spite of a clear combination of original slurs in A, put over irregular groups, in GE (→FEEE) the slur is divided more or less in the middle of the bar (in EE the beginning of the second slur was moved, with a reason in this situation).

b. 93

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

Slurs separated over rest in A & GE2

Slurs separated over bar line in GE1 (→FEEE)

Same as in analogous bar 85, leading the slur to the end of bar 93 is a characteristic inaccuracy of GE1, which, in this case, included also the beginning of the next bar. Inconsistency with A is even more striking, since Chopin modified both slurs in the manuscript and the result of the corrections does not raise any doubt.

b. 93

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

..

Traces of erasures and concentration of the notes visible in A in the 2nd half of the roulade prove the fact it was being extended at the time A was written. According to us, originally the group included 15 notes and its 2nd half was the same as in bar 85.

b. 109

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

In A there is a visible deletion of a sign over d2. It was most probably a mordent, which Chopin preserved as a diversification of the repeating phrase in bar 110.
