Issues : Inaccuracies in FE

b. 147-148

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

GC and FE1 (→FE2FE3) lack six naturals before the notes which were previously already correctly written in another octave, which was completed in the subsequent sources to a varied extent. The fully correct text is included only in GE2 and EE2 (see also the note in bar 148). Similarly in the adjacent bars.

b. 149-150

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

Similarly as in the previous bars, GC and FE1 (→FE2FE3) lack seven accidentals before the notes which were previously already correctly written in another octave. These patent inaccuracies do not impede the interpretation and they were completed in the subsequent sources to a varied extent (including FED, in which a  before the top note of the 3rd crotchet in bar 150 was added). It is only EE2 that has the fully correct text.

b. 151-152

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

In the 2nd half of each of these bars, GC and FE1 (→FE2FE3) have no naturals. The necessary signs – before a1 and a – were added in GE, FE4 and EE (in EE1 only in bar 152).

b. 155

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Pedalling in GC (→GE), contextual interpretation

Pedalling in FE

Pedalling in EE

..

In both sources based on [A] – GC and FE – the pedalling is written certainly (GC) or probably (FE) inaccurately. What is more, in each of the sources the notation is different, which impedes finding out what Chopin's intention concerning this issue was (it is possible that the notation of [A] was inaccurate or unclear, e.g., as a result of corrections). In the main text we give the version of EE, which can be a result of the Chopinesque proofreading of the base text to this edition and which is analogous to the undoubtedly authentic pedalling of an identical phrase in bars 153-156.
