Slurs

b. 64

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Slur from 1st note in GC (→ GE)

Slur in FE (→ EE)

..

The GC (→GE) version seems to contain a double inaccuracy – the lack of a staccato dot (see precedent note) and a negligently written slur.

b. 65

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Slur in GCFE (→EE)

No slur in GE

..

In GC (→GE) the 5th L.H. quaver  is written on the upper staff. This presumably resulted in GE's omission of the L.H. slur.

Slurs in GC, contextual interpretation

Slur in FE (→EE)

Slurs in GE

..

The slur starting in bar 67 is written in GC in an inaccurate manner, so one can assume that it embraces the first chord of the bar too. The clear ending of the previous slur over this chord indicates, however, that the new slur is probably supposed to start from the 2nd chord, as it was clearly marked in analogous bar 195 in all sources. In GE the previous slur was ended in bar 66, whereas the new was started from a2 at the beginning of bar 67, which is certainly an arbitrary interpretation of the notation of GC. The continuous slur in FE (→EE) may be authentic, however, one cannot exclude that it is also an attempt to interpret unclear slurs of the base text, in this case [A].

b. 70-71

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Slur from the beginning of bar 71 in GC, FE & GE2

Slur from the end of bar 70 in GE1

Slur from the middle of bar 71 in EE

..

Both the earlier division of the slurs in GE1 and the later beginning of the slur in EE are undoubtedly misreadings of their Stichvorlagen.

b. 71-72

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Continuous slur in GC, FE (→EE) & GE2

New slur in GE1

..

GE1 ends a page on bar 71, and the slur reaches the end of that bar. This may suggest a possible continuation of the slur in the next bar or a tenuto ending of the slur. In bar 72 a new slur starts from the beginning of the bar in support of the latter, and that is how we reproduce it in our system. In any case this amounts to the engraver's inaccuracy, amended in GE2.
