b. 96

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

..

In the main text we include the cautionary flats before d1-d2, added (by Chopin?) in FE4, as well as in GE and EE (only the top one in EE1).

b. 96-97

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Longer slur in GC & FE (→EE)

Shorter slur in GE

..

In b. 96, at the end of the line, the slur of GE1 suggests continuation; however, there is no ending thereof in b. 97. Therefore, we reproduce it – like in GE2 – as a slur reaching only the last chord in b. 96. In the main text we give the compliant and unequivocal notation of GC and FE (→EE).

category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources

issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Uncertain slur continuation

b. 97-101

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

in bar 97 in GC & GE2

No marking in FE1 (→FE2EE1) & GE1

in bar 101 in FE3 (→FE4) & EE2

..

in bar 101, added by Chopin in the proofreading of FE3 (→FE4), is certainly the latest decision of Chopin, as far as the placement of this indication is concerned. It was repeated also in EE2. The sign in GC in bar 97 could have also been added by Chopin. Therefore, both versions seem to be equal. The absence of the sign in GE1 is most probably an oversight.

b. 100-103

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt I

Long accent &  in GC

in FE (→EE) & GE2

No signs in GE1

..

The absence of the  hairpins (denoting long accents, which is obvious particularly in the notation of bar 101 in GC) is best attributed to the engraver's distraction. The signs were added in GE2. See also the note on  in bars 97-101.
