Chopin most probably hesitated between e and g
on the 2nd quaver in the L.H. Initially – in [A] (→GC→GE), →FE1→FE2→EE) – he wrote an e
, which he then, in the proofreading of FE3 (→FE4,FE5) changed to g
. However, in FES the latter was deleted, restoring e
, which indicates another change of the composer's decision. Both versions have their advantages:
-
g
offers a more consistent movement of the voices of the accompaniment,
-
e
gives a more gentle sound without the doubled third.
In the main text we give the version with e as probably the latest proved one (deletion in FES). The authenticity of this version is unquestionable, which is not entirely clear in the case of the version with g
, as in the proofreading of FE3 there were misunderstandings and errors – cf. bar 20, as well as the 1st mov., bar 76 and 153-156 and the 2nd mov., bar 95.
