b. 71
|
composition: Op. 27 No 1, Nocturne in C# minor
..
Discrepancies in the marking of the note a1 in bar 71 with an ornament should be analysed with taking into account the analogy with bars 67 and 75. At the beginning of bars 67, 71 and 75 GE has ,while FE (→ EE) have only in bar. 75. In that context both markings mean the same, yet it is not clear whether Chopin ultimately wanted to have only in bar 75, or also in bars 67 and 71, therefore we supplement the musical notation with the sign in parentheses.

Pedal marks in these bars were added during the proofreading of FE (→EE), most probably by Chopin. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

b. 75

composition: Op. 27 No 1, Nocturne in C# minor

The sign which occurs in GE was replaced by a in FE (→EE). This is probably a result of Chopin's proofreading, although both markings mean practically the same in that context. Chopin could have added in order to restore an ornament overlooked by the engraver. In the main text we suggest supplementing relating to the upper note of the ornament. An unmarked use of a1 between a minim a1 in bar 74 and a quaver a1 in bar 75 seems unlikely. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Inaccuracies in FE , Omission of current key accidentals , Authentic corrections of FE |

b. 99-100
|
composition: Op. 27 No 1, Nocturne in C# minor
..
The lack of the pedal change at the beginning of bar 100 in GE is undoubtedly a mistake. This and the next pedal change was marked by Chopin during the proofreading of FE (→EE). category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Errors in GE , Authentic corrections of FE |

b. 100
|
composition: Op. 27 No 1, Nocturne in C# minor
..
Chopin supplemented the ties sustaining g1 and c2 when proofreading FE (→EE). The lack of ties could have been intentional—the marking placed over the fourth g1-c2 suggests the repetition of those notes. The additional slur linking f1 and e1 in EE is certainly inauthentic . category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of FE |
