composition: Op. 64 No 2, Waltz in C♯ minor

Same as in bar 9, the absence of the sign is most probably a mistake of the engraver of FE (→GE,EE). It seems that seeing in A a reference to the earlier section of the piece, the engraver used the already engraved text and not A again. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE |

EEW1 and GE1no2 overlooked the hairpin. It is probably an oversight (in the case of EEW1 almost certainly – the signs were overlooked also in bars 140-141 and 142-144). The signs were added in EEW2 and GE2no2. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in EE , Errors in GE , GE revisions |

The interpretation of the range of in A – see bar 13. The solution adopted by us finds confirmation in the notation of FE (→EEC), being probably a result of a proofreading, a Chopin one. It is indicated by the absence of the hairpin both in GE1op and GE1no2, which makes us assume that it was originally absent in FE too. In turn, the missing sign in EEW1 is certainly an oversight – the hairpin was overlooked also in adjacent bars 138-139 and 142-144. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |

EEW1 overlooked the hairpin. EEW2 corrected the mistake only partially, by adding a sign in bars 143-144. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in EE |

In bars 147-148 and 151-152 we suggest a hairpin in the main text, in accordance with the notation of A in analogous bars 3-8 – see the note to bars 19-24. The signs added in bars 147-148 in the proofreading of FE (→GE,EE) – probably on Chopin's request – are clearly longer, yet there is no certainty that they were reproduced in full accordance with his intention (inaccuracies in this respect were very frequent and even Chopin himself could have been influenced by the longer signs visible in analogous bars on this page). The longer signs can be, however, considered to be an equal alternative to our suggestion in all four bars. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Scope of dynamic hairpins , Authentic corrections of FE |
