b. 1

composition: Op. 64 No 1, Waltz in D♭ major

Long accent in A

Short accent in FE (→GE,EE)

..

In A Chopin undoubtedly wrote a long accent. In all editions and impressions of the Waltz, a short accent was placed.

b. 5-28

composition: Op. 64 No 1, Waltz in D♭ major

No signs in As, AI, AII & AIII

  in A (→FEGE,EE

..

All dynamic signs were introduced by Chopin only at the time of preparing the Waltz for publication – they are absent both in As and in the presentation autographs (AI, AII, AIII). In the subsequent notes, we do not discuss the absence of these indications in the aforementioned autographs at all. Similarly in the case of pedalling.

b. 36

composition: Op. 64 No 1, Waltz in D♭ major

No mark in AI, AII & A (→FEGE,EE)

Accent in AIII

..

In the version prepared for print Chopin returned to the concept of accentuating the fnote, yet only in bar 108. The accent (long) has already a different character there, as the note is sustained to the next bar.

b. 62-64

composition: Op. 64 No 1, Waltz in D♭ major

 from bar 62 in A

from bar 63 in FE (→GE,EE)

..

In the main text we give the  hairpin after A. In the editions it was reproduced inaccurately.

b. 75-76

composition: Op. 64 No 1, Waltz in D♭ major

..

The several-bar long  sign is written inaccurately in A – the upper arm is a one and a half bar shorter. We adopt the range of the bottom arm to be meaningful. In FE the sign was led only to the end of bar 75, which is probably a result of a mistake – the sign reaches the end of the line, whereas  from bar 77 was placed already in bar 76. See the next note, as well as bars 71-75.
