EE1 is based on a lost manuscript, most probably [A] or its copy. The manuscript was entirely reviewed and corrected by Chopin, already after having been written, so even the versions differing EE1 from the remaining editions may be authentic (e.g., sempre legato in bar 1, separated slurs in bar 23 and, above all, the version of the R.H. in bar 71). In turn, nothing indicates a possibility of Chopin proofreading of EE1.
In many places EE1 is similar to GC and it differs from FE. However, it does not provide a solid basis to draw conclusions on a possible closer relation of GC to the base text of EE1, e.g., the fact of performing this base text on the basis of GC corrected by Chopin or the other way round.
EE1 includes a patent error in bar 26 (e2-d3 instead of e2-e3). Most probably, the oversight of b at the end of bar 32 is also an error. Same as in some other sources, a few necessary accidentals are missing, e.g., sharps returning F and f1 in bar 6 (similarly in bar14) or naturals returning B-b in bar 11 and e and e2 in bar 26.
Some minor additions, e.g., of accidentals, may be an addition of the reviser: sharps before the 6th quaver in bar 13 or these returning F and f1 in bar 108. The status of double sharps before the 3rd octave in the L.H. in bar 28 is unclear – their authenticity seems to be questionable, yet it is also difficult to point to a reason of revision in this place.
