The indication of the metronome tempo was added by Chopin in GC in pencil, hence in the last phase of preparing the Stichvorlage manuscripts for print. Differently than at the beginning of the Etude, the composer added the indication only in this copy. In GE1 the sempre piano indication, in GC and EE placed under the part of the L.H. in bar 39, was assigned to bar 46, written below. The mistake was corrected in GE2 (→GE3), yet moving the indication between the staves.
