In GC, FE and EE1 (→EE2) there is no  lowering c1 to c1, whereas in FE there is also no sign before c in the L.H. The necessary signs were added in FES, GE and EE3.

The  hairpins were added by Chopin in GC and most probably in the base text to EE. In the main text we reproduce the range of the sign in GC, the versions of the remaining sources are probably (EE) or certainly (GE) inaccurate.

Taking into account the highly predictable structure of the chromatic scale, we do not include cautionary accidentals in it. FE includes a  before F, while GC (→GE1) also before f. Each of these versions of notation can be authentic. In turn, seven cautionary signs in EE (F, A, B, c, f, a, c1) and nine in GE2 (→GE3) – featuring also e and b – are certainly a result of editorial interventions.
