Lombard rhythm in FC (→GE) & EE

Quavers in FE

The sources differ in the moment of transition from the reversed dotted rhythms into equal quavers. One cannot see traces of corrections in any of them, hence it is impossible to determine which version is later. Both versions seem to be equal from the stylistic point of view:

  • without including this place, in the entire Etude, changes of the rhythmic pattern always appear at the beginning of the bar, as it is in FC (→GE) and EE;
  • the previous change of rhythm in FE corresponds to the rhythmic change and, as a consequence, to the phrasing (in a similar way, the harmonic change introduces a new four-bar section at the end of bars 4 and 32, in the latter it is confirmed by the authentic slurring).

In the main text, we give the version of the base source, i.e. FE.

In FC in the part of the R.H. the last note is a quaver without a dot. The mistake, if noticed at all, was corrected in GE.
