b. 22-27

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

Quavers b in A

Crotchets in FE (→GE,EE)

..

Additional stems for the notes in bars 22-27 were added by Chopin in the proofreading of FE1. Together with the slurs in the L.H. added by the composer in bars 24-30, it clearly indicates the use of "harmonic legato" – sustaining harmonic notes with fingers.

b. 22

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

Staccato dot in A

..

The absence of the staccato dot for the 1st quaver in all editions is undoubtedly an oversight of the engraver, resulting from the inaccuracy of notation of A.
See bar 20.

b. 22-23

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

Beginning of the slur in A

Beginning of the slur in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The slur in FE (→GE,EE) starts from the 1st note of the bar. It is most probably an inaccuracy of the engraver. As the slur of FE does not bear traces of Chopin's proofreading, in the main text we adhere to the notation of A, in which it starts from the 2nd note of the L.H.

b. 23-27

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

..

In GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) the engraver arbitrarily combined the d1-a1 minims with an additional stem in bars 24 and 26. In GE3 (→GE4GE5) the f1-aminims in the L.H. in bars 23, 25 and 27 were also combined. Cf. the adjacent note.

b. 23-27

composition: Op. 26 No 1, Polonaise in C♯ minor

Crotchets a1 in A (→FEGE1,EE)

..

In GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) the notes of the e1-a1 fourth in bars 23-27 are combined with a joint crotchet stem. The revision, despite its arbitrary character, undoubtedly corresponds to Chopin's intention concerning the "harmonic legato" – sustaining the harmonic sounds with fingers – which was written in a simplified manner in A.
