Crotchets a1 in A (→FE→GE1,EE)

 

In GE2 (→GE3→GE4→GE5) the notes of the e1-a1 fourth in bars 23-27 are combined with a joint crotchet stem. The revision, despite its arbitrary character, undoubtedly corresponds to Chopin's intention concerning the "harmonic legato" – sustaining the harmonic sounds with fingers – which was written in a simplified manner in A.
