Fingering in EE

Fingering written into FES

In AI Chopin wrote the fingering only in three places, in bars 13, 47 and 79-80. FE (→GE) does not repeat the fingering of AI in bars 13 and 47, yet in the entire Etude there are many more indications (bars 12, 25, 31, 33, 37, 43, 79-80), added in [A] or in a proofreading of FE.

In EE Fontana added the fingering in bars 1, 4-6, 8, 13-24, 26-31, 35-36, 39-51, 63-73, 75-77, not always resulting from Chopin's indications, and in many places contrary to the fingering written by Chopin into pupil's copies, FED and FES (in bars 1, 6, 21, 27, 29, 35, 45, 47). There are also places with a double, alternative fingering – bars 21 and 47.

Minor revisions of the fingering were also introduced in GE3 and GE4 (bars 33 and 37).
