FE2 - Corrected impression of FE1

Publisher: Maurice Schlesinger
Date: VII 1833⇒
Title: Etudes || No. 10
Dedication: son Ami J. Liszt

Second impression of FE1, probably produced soon after the first one. It corrects a misplaced all'ottava sign in bar 8. Chopin's participation in a proofreading of FE2 seems to be plausible.

There are copies differing in the cover details: in the majority of them the error in the initial "J. Liszt" was corrected to "F. Liszt", while after Oct. 1837, the indication "Ier. Livre" (1st book) was added in order to differentiate it from the just published Etudes, Op. 25. The copy presented in our system, with Chopin's handwritten dedication to Napoleon Orda, belongs to the earliest, as its cover still includes the aforementioned error. FES is an example of a copy with the corrected cover.

FE3

In Dec. 1842, after purchasing the rights to the Etudes by Henry Lemoine's publishing house, FE2 was provided with a new cover and the plate number was changed to 2775. HL. No changes were introduced to the score, printed from Schlesinger's original plates. In mUltimate Chopin we present two pupils' copies, FED and FEJ, which can serve as an example of FE3
