Both the omission of the sign in FE and its slight extension in GC (→GE) are undoubtedly of an accidental nature. However, the shorter hairpins in EE may be a result of the interpretation of the notation of A – Chopin would extend the initially written long accent and the result of these corrections is not entirely clear, as a part of the sign in bar 41 has the form of a single horizontal line. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Corrections in A , Errors resulting from corrections , EE inaccuracies , Inaccuracies in GC |

In A (→GC,FE) the lowering e2 to e2 was overlooked. The accidental was added in EE and GE. All sources have a (cautionary?) next to f1 in the same semiquaver. We omit this superfluous sign in the main text. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Accidentals in different octaves , Cautionary accidentals , Omission of current key accidentals , Inaccuracies in GC , Inaccuracies in A , Errors repeated in FE |

The lowest component of the 2nd chord in the R.H. was certainly corrected in GC from b to a; in the topmost component of the first octave in the L.H. there are also clear traces of correction, probably from F to A. It is hard to state clearly whether they are Gutman's own corrections or whether it was Chopin that noticed and corrected the wrong pitch while reviewing GC. The second possibility seems to be less plausible, as in FE this note was totally overlooked, which remained unnoticed by Chopin who was correcting this edition.
