3 staccato dots in A (probable reading→EE) & GE

2 dots in GC

3 wedges in A, possible reading

2 wedges in FE

..

It is not entirely clear what staccato marks were intened by Chopin in this bar. They resemble dots In A despite being bigger than usual – possibly Chopin emboldened them to make them better visible, or changed wedges for dots. FE read them as wedges (except for the omitted L.H. mark), GC and EE – as dots (in the copy the L.H. mark was omitted, and reinstated in GE.

We add the cautionary naturals next to F-f. A similar addition was performed also in GE2 (→GE3).

e2 in A (→GC,FE,EE)

e2 in FE2 (→FE3) & GE

..

In the editors' opinion, e2 in A (→GC,FE1,EE), although possible from harmonic point of vue, results probably from Chopin's inadvertence. In any case, the almost certainly authentic correction of FE2 (→FE3) urges to acknowledge e2 as the composer's last intention. Also added was the flat in GE, as were the cautionary naturals before e1-e2 in the next bar in GE2 (→GE3).

b. 142

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

10-semiquaver slur in A (→FE,EE) & GE

6-semiquaver slur in GC

..

In A (→GC) bar 142 was divided into two lines. It is probably due to this issue that the copyist forgot to continue the slur in the L.H. in the 2nd half of the bar. In GE the slur was extended to the last semiquaver.
