b. 2-14

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

Chords with g in A

No g in FE (→GE,EE)

..

The lower notes of the chords on the 2nd and 3rd quavers in bars 2, 6, 10 and 14 were removed by Chopin in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). It was probably related to the change of the dynamic concept of these bars. Similarly in bars 50 and 54.

b. 4

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

d3 in A (→FEGE,EE)

e3 in FED

..

A (→FEGE,EE) has das the 3rd note of the 3rd triplet, changed by Chopin to e3 in FED. Taking into account the analogous corrections made in A in bars 12 and 52, we consider this change as definitive.

b. 9

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

..

We add a cautionary  before d1; it was already performed in GE and EE4. We remove the unjustified  before c1 in the 2nd chord; the change was already introduced in GE and EE4.

b. 12

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

e3, more likely reading of A (→FEGE1,EE2EE3)

d3 in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) i EE4

..

In A the head of the note embraces the area of two notes, d3 and e3, which stems from the simplified probably hasty correction. In spite of this, in FE (→GE1,EE2EE3) it was correctly interpreted as e3. However, the reviser of GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5) changed it to d3, which was accepted as legitimate also in EE4

b. 15

composition: Op. 10 No 5, Etude in G♭ major

Three notes in A

Two notes in FE (→GE,EE)

Our variant suggestion

..

Lack of ein the editions is, according to us, a result of a misreading of A, yet Chopin could have accepted this version at the stage of proofreading FE. Therefore, in the main text we suggest a variant solution.

In A there are visible traces of corrections, perhaps from the following version:
