It is hard to define how the discrepancies between the sources were created; it could have been, e.g., a combination of Chopin's last proofreading of FE (change of '4' to '3'), not included in GE, and Fontana's revision in EE (change of '3' to '4'). The comfort of performance speaks against this possibility, as the 4th finger is a more natural solution after the 3rd one at the end of the previous bar. However, the strength of this argument is weakened by the indication of the 3rd finger at the end of bar 25, certainly by Chopin, yet unjustified with the position of the fingers. Therefore, in the main text we suggest both versions. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , GE revisions , Differences in fingering , Authentic corrections of FE |

By shortening the slur, the engravers of GE and EE4 probably considered the slur of FE as inaccurate. In the main text we try to render the plausible sense of the literally interpreted notation of A (→FE→EE2→EE3) in a possibly legible way. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , GE revisions |

Chopin added the pedalling in a proofreading of FE. The mark, overlooked in bar 28, was added in GE3 (→GE4→GE5), yet too early, as it seems; the reviser probably did not notice that despite a different notation, the bass note remains unchanged during the entire bar. The addition we perform includes the authentic pedalling from the previous bar. In the main text we give the fingering of A, as in the editions it was reproduced with mistakes. Chopin corrected two out of them in pupils' copies – he added the omitted '1' digit over the 5th note in bar 31 in FES and he changed the '1' digit to '2' over the 3rd note in bar 32 in FED. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Errors in FE , Annotations in FED , Inaccuracies in FE , GE revisions , Annotations in FES |

The dashes limiting the range of cresc. were added in a proofreading of FE (→EE). In GE the word crescendo was divided into syllables. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: GE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE |
