Our alternative suggestion

Below a list of pedalling of particular sources in bars 3, 11 and 51:

bar FE, GE1 GE2-5 EE

3
11
51

According to us, it is highly unlikely that Chopin wanted to differentiate pedalling in these bars, therefore one of the entries in bars 3 and 51 is probably inaccurate. As it is hard to indicate one of them as more justified, we give alternative versions in all three places:

  • in the main text we complete the pedalling in bar 11 on the basis of bar 3. The solution is totally compliant with the base source (FE2); the version was also introduced in GE2 (→GE3GE4GE5);
  • additionally, in bars 3 and 11 we suggest marks drawn from bar 51 and in bar 51 – those from bar 3.

As a result, the main text of the Etude includes both probably authentic pedalling versions in these bars, with a possibility of unifying all three places with the help of one change of the version.
