The ending of the slur from the previous bars, given in the main text, is a result of interpretation of unclear in this respect authentic sources, A and FE. When interpreted literally, the ending of the slur in this place is absent in both sources.

In FE (→EE3) there is no ending of the slur in bar 19 (in the new line). It is a common mistake of the first editions of Chopin's works, particularly French, as well as of the autographs.

All slurs of A clearly reach the 1st quavers in these bars marked staccato (apart from bars 27-28, discussed separately). It is unclear why they were shortened in the editions, yet nothing indicates that it could be a result of Chopin's intervention.

The correct phrasing of the motif in these bars, although not marked by Chopin, is undeniable, therefore, in the main text we suggest a slur based on the adjacent bars. The slur of A is a typical triplet slur and if Chopin had paid attention to this place, he would have probably added a phrasing slur or prolonged the existing one.
