b. 1-5

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

..

The cautionary accidentals before c1 in the L.H. were added in the L.H. in one of the last proofreadings of FE (→GE). They are also included in EE, apart from the  missed in bar 5 in EE2 (the engraver of EE also omitted  in bar 6, thus there are no accidentals on the entire stave of the 3rd great stave). This undoubtedly necessary addition probably comes from Chopin, although the signs are not to be found in any of the manuscripts.

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

No dot in CLI, GE & EE

Dot in Ap & FE

..

In the main text we consider the staccato dot, visible over the 1st octave in Ap and FE. It is hard to determine what caused the sign's lack in both GE and EE.

b. 9-13

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

..

The cautionary naturals before c1 in the L.H. were added in bars 9 and 13 in one of the last proofreadings of FE (→GE). They are also included in EE, except for the  overlooked in bar 13 in EE2. The manuscripts do not include any signs in these places.

Chopin marked the last phase of crescendo both in FE, which we give in the main text, and in Ap. In the remaining sources it was the sign of FE that was reproduced, while in EE it was slightly shortened.

Three accents written in Ap in bar 32 are undoubtedly short, if considering their shape. However, their position gives raise to doubts – the signs certainly do not exclusively refer to the upper voice, therefore, they fall on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th beat of the bar, where they probably concern the entire chords. However, if they concern the chords, such a position suggests their extended function, which corresponds to the definition of long accents (cf. bars 45-46). In the main text we give one  written by Chopin – as in two following bars – in FEcor. In finished FE (→GE) and EE the sign was reproduced inaccurately.
