Issues : Authentic corrections of FE
b. 39

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

In a later proofreading of FE (→GE,EE) Chopin added the slur combining f and e (it is absent both in FEcor and Ap). Similarly in bars 4 and 12. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

b. 39

composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor

Same as in bars 4 and 12, the rhythmic corrections written in FEcor confirm that the crotchets in CLI and Ap are the original version changed by Chopin in all three analogous places. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations |

b. 40
|
composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor
..
In CLI there are no naturals returning a1 and d2. The accidentals were also originally absent in FEcor, in which Chopin added both these two naturals and a third one returning f2 on the last semiquaver in the lower voice. Eventually, both FE (→GE,EE) and Ap have the correct notation. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Omissions to cancel alteration , Authentic corrections of FE , Errors of CLI |

A cautionary natural before c1 in the L.H. was added in one of the last proofreadings of FE (→GE,EE). The manuscripts do not include an accidental in this place. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Cautionary accidentals , Authentic corrections of FE |

b. 40-44
|
composition: Op. 10 No 2, Etude in A minor
..
In bars 40-41 and 43-44 all staccato dots in the part of the L.H. were written by Chopin himself in FEcor (→FE→GE,EE). The overlooked – most probably inadvertently – signs in bar 42 were added in a later proofreading. Ap has the marks only on odd beats of the bar (as in bar 38) and only in bars 40 and 42. For a dot at the beginning of bar 41 see note to this bar. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE |
