In the main text we give the fingering in bars 82-83, given by Chopin at the time of proofreading FE (→GE). It was completed – on the basis of authentic hints in similar places – by Fontana in EE. According to us, the accent over c1 featured in FE (→GE,EE) is a result of the engraver's error (who perhaps was influenced by the accents in bars 79-80). In the main text we give the long accent written in A, emphasising the appoggiatura of d1. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents |

The fingering digit added over the 5th semiquaver ('1') in a proofreading of FE (→GE) is erroneous, which is revealed by comparison with analogous figures in bars 81 and 83. The conclusion is confirmed by corrections in FED and FES written with pencil. The correct digit '2' is also in EE. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Annotations in teaching copies , EE revisions , Errors in FE , Annotations in FED , Annotations in FES , Authentic corrections of FE |

The indication sempre legatiss. was added in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). It could be assumed that Chopin added it instead of a slur in bars 85-88, overlooked in FE. A similar addition in bar 81 suggests, however, that the composer did not see anything wrong with simultaneous presence of both indications. Therefore, in the main text we give both the slur and the verbal indication. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE |
