b. 23

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Grace note in FE, GE & EE2

Our suggestion

..

The grace note in the form of a small crotchet is certainly an error of EE1, corrected in EE2.
We propose adding an arpeggio mark similar to the notation used in GE in the analogous bar 9.

b. 23-26

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

 in FE (→EE)

Our variant suggestion

..

Placing the  marks in bars 23-24 and 25-26 shows consequent discrepancies between GE and FE (→EE). According to the editors, both ways of pedalling are authentic and can be successfully applied in practice, hence we propose to juxtapose them in the variant form.

b. 23

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

No marking in FE (→EE) & GE

Our variant suggestion

..

The  mark appears in the sources already at the end of bar 22. However, in similar situations, e.g. in bars 8-9 and 12-13, suitable marks are put a quaver later. Therefore, we consider this possibility – as an alternative one – also here.

b. 24-25

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

No hairpins in FE (→EE)

 in GE

Our suggestion

Alternative suggestion

..

Lack of  marks in FE (→EE) is probably a result of a less precise marking in [A1]. A comparison with the analogous bars in the entire Prelude indicates a possibility of an inaccurate (incomplete) notation also in GE. Due to this fact, in the main text we propose an addition of the mark in bar 24. We also give an alternative version (one-and-a-half bar  mark) based on the dominant manner of marking similar bars in GE.

b. 24

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Notation in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we give the notation of GE, more coherent with the notation of the suitable octave in bar 26.
