A slur in A and GE2 (→GE3)

Slurs in  GE1 (→FEEE)

..

In A, the phrase is covered with a single slur (up to the 2nd beat of bar 14); this version is correctly reproduced in GE2 (→GE3). Meanwhile, in GE1 the notation is ambiguous, as the slur in the line-ending bar 13 reaches the last quaver only. This was the reason why in FE (→EE) the motif in bar 14 was embraced with a separate slur.

b. 18-19

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

..

A bears traces of corrections of the L.H. part in those bars. One can be almost certain that originally bar 18 began with the crotchet , other changes - on the 2nd beat of bar 18 and at the beginning of bar 19 - are more difficult to decipher.

b. 19-20

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

..

A has got two more bars written in between bar 19 and bar 20. Those two additional bars, later deleted, contained modified versions of bars 20 and 5. They formed the 1st volta for the ending of the initially planned repeat of the section beginning in bar 6.

We simplify the notation of the 1st note of the bar preserving all the elements that are significant for its meaning. The adopted solution was many times employed by Chopin in similar situations, e.g. in bars 36 and 98. The erasure visible in A makes us guess that the notation of the manuscript resulted from the correction of the version with the minim f1 in the lower voice.
