No slur in A

Slur from g1 in GE (→FE,IE)

Slur from g1 in EE, our suggestion

The fact that Chopin omitted the L.H. slur was almost certainly caused by the lack of space for writing it – this bar is written in A in the bass clef, while over the highly placed notes there is a fragment of the diminuendo indication and the R.H. slur. In the main text we provide a slur compliant with the slurs in the previous bars. The whole-bar GE slur (→FE,IE) resulted from an arbitrary decision by the engraver of GE (as in the preceding and the next bar). It is difficult to say whether EE shortening the slur (with respect to GE) is an inaccuracy or a lucky revision (after the R.H. slur?).
