Continuous slur in A

2 slurs in GE (→FE,IE)

1 slur in EE

In A the slur in bar 120, which ends a line, reaches the bar line, yet it is very close to the last quaver, hence it can be interpreted both as a slur ending in this bar and as a slur that should be continued. The beginning of the slur in bar 121 is misleading – the main part of the slur starts over the 1st quaver, yet Chopin started writing it much earlier, which is poorly visible due to ink stoppage. When considering the slur as a whole, it undoubtedly indicates that it should be continued from the preceding bar. Therefore, in the main text we provide a continuous slur, which is more natural in terms of music. The version of the editions resulted from an inaccurate interpretation of the slurs by the engraver of GE, while in the case of EE also from an oversight by the engraver of EE.
